How We Met

Right place, right time.
Destiny.
Luck.
Meant to be.

Whatever you want to call it, we consider ourselves very fortunate to have met each other. This is the story of how we met.

In 2012 before we met, our friends had the same great idea: go on a weekend cruise to celebrate some birthdays. Our friends happened to chose the same weekend and we didn’t know it yet, but we were going to meet each other on this cruise.

A cruise is exciting in a unique way: there’s the fun of discovering all the ship has to offer and at the same time, the fun of the destination (like a roadtrip except you’re on the road with hundreds of other people and you have a giant playground and buffet in your car and you don’t have to drive and there’s 24/7 access to pizza and ice cream). Another thing we learned: as big as the ship seemed, you tended to cross paths with the same people over and over. On the 2nd night of the cruise, our paths would finally cross.

For all the things to do on this cruise, there was only one nightclub. That 2nd night, most of us and our friends found ourselves in the club after a lovely lobster dinner. A few drinks into the night, this pretty girl and her friend approach my buddy and I. They don’t say anything; they just….dance.

After awhile, she sticks her hand out for a handshake..

“Hi my name is Hollie” she says with a real life “heart eyes” look on her face.**

“I’m Ryan.”

After that is mostly a blur. We go and grab ice cream (24/7 soft serve is death) and just hang out on the boat into the early morning. The next night, we mostly repeat this same scene: meet up at the nightclub, grab ice cream and chat after; nothing too crazy.

On the last morning before we debark the ship, I see Hollie and her friend Stephanie line up to check out.

“Dion, watch my bag. I’m gonna go get this girl’s number.”

Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean – April 22, 2012

As you might guess, Hollie actually gave me her real number (#NeverInDoubt). We definitely kept in touch and now 5 years later, we look forward to celebrating our relationship with you when we get married and become #NewlyNoveros.
